general information

New York City is the largest city of the United States of America and is situated at the Atlantic Ocean.

The area was bought by Dutch settlers from the Algonquin-Indians in 1625 and they called their new territory New Netherlands and the south of Manhattan Island New Amsterdam.
The English took over in 1664 and renamed it New York.

After the independence, New York became the first capital of the United States of America.

On September 11, 2001, New York City experienced it's greatest tragedy: two hijacked airplanes flew into the Twin Towers. They collapsed and over 2,000 people died. It forever changed the New York skyline.
